The Imperial Carriage Museum houses the royal and imperial carriages used by the Habsburg court.
Located in the park of Schönbrunn Palace, it is considered one of the most important museums of its kind in the world.
The museum houses over 170 historic vehicles, including gala carriages, sleighs, and carriages from the early 20th century, the last vehicles used by the Habsburgs.
Among the most important vehicles in the museum are:
- The baroque Imperial Carriage is a gigantic carriage covered in gold and crystal, built in 1735 for Charles VI.
- The Imperial Hearse is an imposing black carriage used for the funerals of important sovereigns, including Empress Sisi and Emperor Franz Joseph.
- The children’s carriages are small, finely decorated strollers and prams for crown princes and princesses.
