Built in 1884 on the ruins of the Domus Comunis Magna, it is located in Piazza della Libertà.

The inauguration was held on 30th September 1894 and the speaker of the ceremony was Giosuè Carducci who on the occasion pronounced the famous speech on “perpetual freedom”.

On the façade of the Palace there are the coats of arms of the four castles that formed the Republic: Faetano, Serravalle, Montegiardino and Fiorentino.

On the right stands the statue of San Marino, founder of the Republic and in the center, there is the balcony from which the names of the Captains Regent are revealed, who are elected every six months every 1st April and 1st October.

Inside the Palace there is a statue depicting Giosuè Carducci while on the walls of the staircase of honor there is a plaque in honor of Giuseppe Mazzini and a bronze head of Abraham Lincoln, who received honorary citizenship of the Republic in 1861.

From the vestibule, which contains a ceramic triptych depicting the patron saints San Marino, Quirino and Sant’Agata, you enter the Great and General Council Hall where all parliamentary activities take place.

On the wall at the end of the Hall is the image of the Holy Founder, surrounded by his people. Peasants, soldiers, men, women and children listen to San Marino while admonishing them “Relinquos vos liberos ab utroque nomine” (“I leave you free from both men”, implying the figures of the Pope and the Emperor).
