The city of Udine is historically important and in itself contains monuments and buildings of considerable historical value.
Piazza Libertà, known as “the most beautiful Venetian square on the mainland” stands at the foot of the Castle and is characterized by a group of Venetian Renaissance-style buildings: the Loggia del Lionello, the Peace Monument, the Clock Tower, the fountain Renaissance of Carrara and the Loggia and Tempietto of San Giovanni.
Another important square in Udine is Piazza Matteotti, also known as Piazza delle Erbe which, with its arcades that surround it, looks like an open-air living room.
