The UN in Geneva and the “Broken Chair”

The Palace of Nations (“Palais des Nations”), a beautiful building from the early 20th century, is the headquarters of the United Nations in Geneva.

Considered one of the most important diplomatic centers in the world, it is also home to many international political, economic and scientific institutions.

The Broken Chair sculpture, a gigantic 12-meter-high wooden chair with a broken foot, is located next to the United Nations Headquarters in the Square of Nations.

Sponsored by Handicap International, it was placed opposite the Palace of Nations in Geneva in 1997 and symbolizes the fight against the use of anti-personnel mines.
