Windsor

Windsor is a town in the county of Berkshire about 40 km from London.

It was founded by the Roman legions in 441 and already in 1086 became the seat of the British monarchy.

The city of Windsor is famous for its Castle, the famous official residence of the Royal Family.

It was built of wood in the eleventh century after the Norman conquest of William I the Conqueror. 

Since the time of King Henry I of England it has been inhabited by numerous British monarchs, making it the oldest European royal palace.

Inside there are the treasures of the Royal Collection, the Chapel of St. George, the State Apartments and the private rooms.

Royal summer residence for almost 1000 years, since 6th March 2022 it is the permanent official residence of Queen Elizabeth II.
