The Statue of the Motherland (Батьківщина-Мати) is a colossal monument located in Kyiv, symbolizing the Motherland.
It was inaugurated on May 9, 1981 by former Communist Party of the Soviet Union Secretary General Leonid Brezhnev.
The monument, built of titanium, is 102 meters high and weighs about 560 tons.
The “Motherland” holds a 16-meter-long sword on her right arm, and on her left arm the shield with the coat of arms of the Soviet Union.
The statue was dedicated to the Soviet Union’s war against Nazi Germany during World War II.
