Prince Hans Adam of Liechtenstein acquired the Lordship of Schellenberg in 1699 and the County of Vaduz in 1712.

With the acquisition of the County of Vaduz, the Herawingert vineyard also became property of the Princely House.

With its four hectares of vineyards, Herawingert is one of the finest vineyards in the Rhine Valley thanks to its southwest-facing location, the mild climate of the Föhn wind, and the soil composition.

These wines are distinguished by their fresh and distinctive style, produced with a modern yet traditional approach, gentle processing, and particular attention to natural expression and careful maturation.

During the guided tour I had the opportunity to visit the vineyards, the aging area in wooden barrels and the tasting room.

The origins of the National Museum date back to the late 19th century, when a museum was established at Vaduz Castle.

Its aim was to prevent Liechtenstein’s cultural assets from being sold abroad.

Prince Johann II of Liechtenstein supported the project and provided space within Vaduz Castle, where the collected objects remained until 1914.

In the following decades, the collection was housed in various buildings in Vaduz, such as the Government Palace and the Town Hall. With the reopening in 2003, the collections found a permanent home in their current location.

The first exhibition area, located on the ground floor, illustrates the history of civilization in Liechtenstein. This area houses a ceramic bowl from the 5th century BC and several other historical artifacts related to the prehistoric period.

On the first floor is the area dedicated to the Middle Ages, with a collection of gold coins, richly colored stucco walls and ceilings, and numerous other artifacts.

The top floor is dedicated to the important figures who governed the country. Here, the boundary stones that once marked the national borders are displayed, and the stories of the battles and sieges waged by the Liechtenstein army before its abolition in 1868 are told.

The National Museum in Vaduz also includes the Postal Museum (dedicated article) and the Liechtenstein Treasury (photography and filming prohibited).

Its current location is on the Städtle in Vaduz, in the so-called Engländer Palace, and is annexed to the Liechtenstein National Museum.

The Liechtenstein Postal Museum was founded in 1930 but opened to the public in 1936.

Liechtenstein stamps are internationally renowned for their exquisite aesthetics and the complex techniques used to produce them.

For many of the stamps in the museum, original drafts by artists and designers are also displayed.

Also on display are proofs and engraving plates, as well as documents relating to postal history and historical equipment.

It has been part of the Liechtenstein National Museum since 2006.

The bridge connects two nations and demonstrates how neighboring communities have worked together for generations without any customs controls.

The structure was built in 1901 to replace the 1871 wooden bridge, which required constant raising due to river regulation projects on the Rhine.

It is one of the last fully intact wooden bridges spanning the Rhine River.

The combination of wooden diagonals and metal tension rods demonstrates a craftsmanship that has largely disappeared.

It was completely restored between 2009 and 2010, and transit is permitted only on foot, bicycle, or horseback.

Between 1872 and 1874, the old chapel was demolished and replaced by the current church, designed by Viennese architect Friedrich von Schmidt.

Built of stone, it features an imposing front tower with a pointed spire, a double-branched external staircase, and ornate bronze sculptures in the niches.

The interior architecture is that of a three-aisled church, with a central nave featuring four bays.

In 1997, during the visit of Pope John Paul II, it was elevated to the status of Cathedral for the Archdiocese of Vaduz.

The cathedral also houses the Princely Crypt, where members of the House of Liechtenstein are buried. Visitors may access this sacred space only on All Saints’ Day.

The Principality of Liechtenstein is one of the smallest states in Europe, located between Austria and Switzerland. It is the Rhine that marks the border with the Swiss territory, while on the eastern front the limit is marked by mountains.

The standard of living is generally high, making it the third richest country in the world in terms of per person GDP.

The main attraction of the city undoubtely is the Vaduz Castle, the official residence of the prince, located on a plateau from which it is possible to enjoy a splendid panoramic view. It has been owned by the royal house since 1712 and, for this reason, its interiors cannot be visited.

In the center of Vaduz there are some museums, including the National Museum of Liechtenstein, the Kunstmuseum and the Postal Museum.
