Korouoma Waterfall Park

Korouoma Waterfall Park

Korouoma Waterfall Park is one of the most famous natural attractions in Finnish Lapland and is located about an hour and a half’s drive from Rovaniemi.

It lies in a valley about 100 meters deep, carved out by the Korojoki River, which gives rise to three waterfalls called Jaska Jokunen, Mammuttipotuous, and Ruskea Virta.

Jaska Jokunen Waterfall, the Finnish name for the comic book character Charlie Brown, is a waterfall whose ice has a light blue-green hue, and at least two other small secondary waterfalls can be found not far from it.

Mammuttiputous Waterfall (in Finnish, “Mammoth Waterfall”) is the largest of the three; this frozen waterfall takes on a deep blue hue.

Ruskea Virta Waterfall (in Finnish, “Brown River”) is easily explained: the color of the ice resembles rust.

A trail of about 5 km allows you to admire the falls, including some uphill and downhill sections that can be slippery.

For winter visits, I recommend thermal clothing, suitable hiking shoes, and crampons for ice.
