Titanic Museum – Belfast

Belfast’s most cutting-edge museum tells the fascinating story of the Titanic, from its construction to the tragedy of its maiden voyage.

Titanic Belfast, built on the site of the Harland and Wolff shipyard where the Titanic was built, has become one of the city’s major tourist attractions.

In the early 1900s, Belfast was a major global powerhouse in the naval industry, and it was in its shipyards that the Titanic, then the largest and most luxurious ocean liner in the world, was designed.

The structure’s angular design mirrors the shape of the Titanic’s bow, and its 38-meter height matches the ship’s hull.

Inside, nine interactive galleries detail the entire story, from its creation to its tragic sinking.

The exhibition features numerous exhibits, including reconstructions of the Titanic’s furnishings, which impress with the unbridled luxury of first class, but also with the simple practicality of the lower classes and crew quarters.

Galleries 6 and 7 are dedicated to the collision with the iceberg, the dramatic moments of the call for help, the evacuation, and the rescue efforts. The media impact is also explored, with survivors’ testimonies.

The final room is dedicated to the Titanic as it is today, sunk at a depth of 3,800 meters in the North Atlantic Ocean.

It has become a new habitat for hundreds of species of fish, coral, and microorganisms, which have grown on the wreck, on objects on board, scattered within a radius of hundreds of meters, and on the remains of the 1,518 victims.

A few years ago, researchers managed to locate the wreck and explore it remotely with the help of a robot equipped with cameras.
