Expo Georgia is located in Tbilisi and is one of the largest exhibition pavilions in the country.
It was built in 1958 to host exhibitions on the achievements of socialism in agriculture and consists of 11 buildings in Soviet modernist style.
At the entrance to the expo is a classical Soviet-style statue depicting a woman reaching toward the sky and the arch of the main pavilion.
Numerous exterior walls of the pavilions feature mosaics celebrating the technological, industrial, and scientific progress of the Soviet era.
Outside Pavilion 7 is a large silver statue. It depicts a man, a woman, and a child holding symbols of progress such as an airplane, a cogwheel, and a model of an atom.
With the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Expo Georgia assumed a key role in Georgia’s attempt to modernize its economy and enter the global market.
Today, the area serves as a trade fair center, hosting government events, festivals, and fairs. The most important fairs include the Tbilisi International Book Festival, the WinExpo wine fair, and the Tbilisi Art Fair, featuring artists from Eastern Europe and the Caucasus.
