The Schatzkammer (treasure chamber) is located in the Residence in Munich and houses the treasures of the Wittelsbacher dynasty.
It is one of the most valuable collections of its kind and inside are preserved royal crowns, precious vases of different materials, masterpieces of craftsmanship and exotic curiosities.
The ten exhibition halls preserve almost two centuries of art and culture history contained in over 1,200 objects.
Among the most important objects are the crown with the sceptre and the globe made for the first Bavarian king Maximilian I Joseph in 1806.
Many objects testify to the deep Catholic faith that characterizes Bavaria such as the prayer book of Emperor Charles II the Bald and the reliquary of the Cross of Henry II the Saint.
The most precious object in the collection is the sixteenth-century statue of St. George, covered with 2,291 diamonds, 406 rubies and 209 pearls.
