In Gardone Riviera, on the Brescia side of Lake Garda, there is the Heller Garden which can be considered a real ecological complex, unparalleled in other parks and botanical gardens.
In about 10,000 square meters there are over 3,000 botanical species from all over the world, from the Alps to the Himalayas, from Mato Grosso to New Zealand, from Japan to Australia, Canada and Africa. An exceptional harvest, made even more extraordinary by the fact that each species has descended into its natural environment recreated with care.
The goal of the Heller Garden is that of naturalness and landscape and naturalistic love and is the unifying element of a garden in which different environments are mixed, from streams to waterfalls, from ponds with Koi carp and trout to dolomite stone hills next to cacti and towers covered with ivy.
This immense variety blends harmoniously with the artificial structures created in the garden and is enriched by contemporary sculptures and scenographic effects.Among the sculptures are works by artists such as Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, Mimmo Paladino and several oriental sculptures.
André Heller, Austrian poet-artist, has been the caretaker of this garden since 1989 while his predecessor was Dr. Arthuro Hruska, dentist of the Tsars, the Savoy and other famous personalities of history, who around 1901 bought the land where between 1912 and 1914 his garden was built.
